Kassiopi beach

Kassiopi is a big tourist resort with a port, situated at a small peninsula, at a distance of 37 kilometers northern to the town of Corfu. Built on the site of the homonymous city of ancient times, it actually counts more than 1000 permanent residents. It is worth visiting the church of Panagia Kassiopitissa, which possibly has been built on the place of an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus Kassius. You will also see the ruins of the Byzantine castle that used to protect the town and its port and was guarding the sea route from Corfu to the opposite coast. During the Venetian domination, the castle suffered extended damages by the Ottoman attacks and finally the Venetians used the building material to reinforce the castle of the town of Corfu.
Far away in the sea, almost at the middle of the way to the Albanian coast, it is found Peristeres, a complex of small rocky islets with a lighthouse If you feel like wandering around, you may visit the village of Aghios Stefanos (some 3 kilometers southern to Kassiopi), built in an over green area within a small cove. It has a port for small boats and a pebbly, well enough organized beach for swimming. You may also go to the beach of Avlaki or Vourlias, 3 kilometers far from Kassiopi on your way to Aghios Stefanos. It is a small beach within a scenic small cove. Hotels and rooms to let, both within the village and in the area around are available for accommodation. Food is gorgeous in the sea front taverns where you may taste fresh fish and the tasty local dishes, along with a wide variety of dishes of Greek and International cooking.
For swimming and sunbathing you may stay at the beach in front of the settlement, with fine pebbles and small stones. The beach is very popular and attracts many visitors. According to the weather, the wind, the conditions of the sea and your mood, you may choose the beaches of Avlaki, Aghios Stephanos of Sinies, Kerassia (eastwards), Seki and Kalamaki (westwards). All of them are very close, at a distance less than 10 kilometers far from Kassiopi. A great local feast (“panighyri”) takes place on the 15th of August, in honor of Panaghia Kassiopitissa (Assumption of Virgin Mary). In case of health problems, a Medical center is available in the village. Kassiopi village has also a police station and a fire tender. Access from the capital (Corfu, 37 kilometers far away) is possible by rented or private cars and motorbikes. Facilities for mooring of yachts and water and fuel supply are available in the small port in front of the village.
